Project 3 Overview (Post 2)

So for my project on informative writing I chose to write about binge drinking on college campuses (namely the University of Rhode Island).  I wanted to see if the scientific definition of "binge drinking" was similar to that of what students defined it as.  Starting with that as a base, I then wanted to see not only the health effects of "binge-ing" when it comes to alcohol consumption but also the indirect issues such as grade decline and things of that nature.  What I was wondering was what everybody here (I guess those reading this blog) defined binge drinking as.  (I will withhold what the general scientific consensus is for the purpose of seeing what people think).

  1. This should be an interesting topic with some interesting answers. I think it means the consomption of large amounts of alcohol in a short amount of time

  2. It is always good to check a specific location's understanding of a term in public discourse, specifically if that term describes a phenomenon that has negative effects. I am curious about how you are goping to collect your information. an online survey e-mailes to cohort of students woudl be a good way. You will only get a portion of these e-mails returned, so you will have to send out more. Of course, I'm sure your counseling office has already done surveys like this and you should tap them as a resource. In addition,on your survey, you may want to add afew questions that work past definition and try to get to attitude towards binge drinking. Perhaps to get peole to pay attention you need to creat a mroe "sensational" term like "serial binge drinking." Or something like that.
